...that’s the strategic problem that Apple’s got to work its way through. Keep the high prices, high cachet, high margins and high profits but sacrifice potential future market share? Or go for the market share at the price of some amount of current profits?

The problem is that even at the high end of the market, they will not be able to maintain the high margins. Other manufacturers are making high-end devices too.
